CFIA REGAL Program Update for Grain Exporters
An Industry Notice from the desk of 20/20 Seed Labs Inc a CFIA-authorized REGAL testing laboratory.
For Canadian grain exporters, a change is coming to how REGAL-eligible samples are submitted for testing.
Effective April 1, 2027, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) will no longer accept REGAL-eligible grain export samples for routine testing. Exporters will be directed to submit these samples to authorized REGAL laboratories.
The CFIA will continue to test samples that fall outside the scope of the REGAL program, oversee the program, and issue phytosanitary certificates.
Supporting Grain Exporters Through the Transition
At 20/20 Seed Labs, we understand that export timelines are important, and that reliable testing is part of keeping shipments moving.
With two high-throughput, CFIA-authorized REGAL laboratories in Nisku, Alberta, and Winnipeg, Manitoba, we are ready to work with exporters across Western and Eastern Canada as they prepare for this change with increased capacity already in place to support.
Our Nisku laboratory provides support to exporters throughout Western Canada, while our Winnipeg location offers a convenient option for Manitoba and Eastern Canadian shipments. Both laboratories are already receiving and processing samples from key exporters across the country with the capacity to offload shipments within hours without delays.
Through the REGAL program, our team provides CFIA-accredited soil, weed seed, and insect checks within the program’s scope. We also offer a range of seed import and export testing services to support our clients’ broader needs.
Start the Conversation Now to Prepare for the Transition Ahead
For exporters who currently submit REGAL-eligible samples directly to the CFIA, now is a good time to review what this transition will mean for your operation.
Consider your anticipated sample volumes, shipment schedules, and current submission process. Connecting with an authorized laboratory ahead of April 2027 will give your team time to establish a process that works for your business. 20/20 Seed Labs is available to discuss your testing needs and help you prepare for the coming transition.
