After four rewarding years as Laboratory Manager, I am excited to share that I have officially transitioned into the role of Business Development Manager at 20/20 Seed Labs. This new chapter represents both a personal milestone and a professional evolution—one that I am stepping into with gratitude, enthusiasm, and a deep sense of purpose.
My journey with 20/20 Seed Labs began in the fall of 2018 when I joined the team as a Seed Analyst Trainee. At the time, I was eager to learn, curious about the science of seed testing, and ready to roll up my sleeves. I spent my early days immersed in understanding the fundamentals—germination and purity testing—where I developed a strong technical foundation and a deep appreciation for the precision and care that define our work.
Those early experiences were formative. Working daily in the lab gave me a front-row seat to the critical role we play in supporting agriculture across the province and beyond. I learned not only the technical aspects of seed analysis but also the importance of consistency, attention to detail, and the value of teamwork. Every sample we handled represented a grower’s livelihood, and that responsibility was never lost on me.
In 2021, I stepped into the role of Laboratory Manager. It was a significant transition—one that came with new responsibilities, challenges, and opportunities. Leading the lab meant overseeing daily operations, ensuring quality standards were met, and supporting a team of skilled analysts. It also meant being a problem-solver, a mentor, and a bridge between departments.
As I grew in my role, I discovered a passion for teaching. I found great satisfaction in sharing knowledge and helping others understand the intricacies of seed testing and grading. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to deliver seed grading courses across Alberta, working with producers, Seed Cleaning Plants, and industry professionals. These experiences have been incredibly rewarding—not just because I enjoy teaching, but because they have allowed me to connect with people, answer questions, and build relationships.
Teaching has also helped me grow as a communicator. It is one thing to understand a process; it is another to explain it clearly and confidently to someone else. These skills have served me well in every aspect of my work and will continue to be valuable as I move into a more outward-facing role.
Now, in the role of Business Development Manager, I am excited to take on a new set of challenges. This role is a natural extension of my journey so far. It allows me to combine my technical background with my passion for communication, relationship-building, and strategic thinking.
In this new capacity, I will be focusing on expanding our market presence, identifying new opportunities for growth, and strengthening our connections with clients and partners. I will be working closely with Sarah Foster (President) and Carey Matthiesen (Director of Operations) to ensure that our services continue to meet the evolving needs of the industry. I am particularly excited about the opportunity to engage more directly with our customers—learning about their goals, understanding their challenges, and finding ways we can support their success.
The agricultural industry is constantly evolving, and so are the needs of our clients. As Business Development Manager, I see my role as both a listener and a leader—someone who can translate customer feedback into actionable insights, and who can help shape the future of our services in a way that is responsive, innovative, and grounded in quality.
I’m also looking forward to exploring new partnerships and collaborations. Whether it’s working with research institutions, industry associations, or emerging ag-tech companies, I believe there are exciting opportunities ahead for 20/20 Seed Labs to grow and lead.
