20/20 Seed Labs Inc is a full-service agricultural laboratory with locations in Nisku, Alberta, and Winnipeg, Manitoba. Our labs conduct seed quality testing in the areas of physiology, microbiology, molecular biology, and seed morphology. We currently have an Accredited Seed Analyst position open. This exciting opportunity is located at our Winnipeg Laboratory.
Job Description:
Reporting to the Winnipeg Lab Manager the primary role of the Purity and Germination Analyst will be to perform germination and purity analysis on all crop types, including cereals, pulses, grasses, legumes, vegetables, and specialty crops. This involves implementing the Canadian, AOSA and ISTA Seed Testing protocols to assess seedling essential structures, identifying and diagnosing field issues through seedling analysis and identifying contaminating seed species.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze germination and purity tests according to the recognized protocols of CFIA, ISTA, AOSA, and 20/20 Seed Labs Inc. Quality Management System
- Conduct analysis on advisory testing such as but not limited to vigour, herbicide tolerance, Tetrazolium chloride, moisture, seed counts, etc.
- Adhere to the Quality Management System to ensure the maintenance of accreditation standards, internal processes and customer requirements are followed at all times.
- Ensure the efficient handling of samples, procedures, data entry and preparation to ensure cost effective measures are maintained in the lab processes.
- Provide diagnosis and consultation to customers as it related to crop issues determined within the context of seed quality testing.
- Resolve problems with customers concerning seed testing results, service-related inquiries and other.
- Ensure the timely and accurate release of results and follow internal communication procedures to relay information to customers.
- Apply customer testing specifications to testing results, follow procedures related to customer specs.
- Provide mentorship and training to analysts in training as needed.
- Conduct and document equipment maintenance and calibrations as required.
- Identify and drive continuous process improvements.
Qualifications, Skills, and Education:
- Possess a full accreditation as a Canadian Seed Analyst or an RST or equivalent.
- Educational background in plant science, botany and/or seed science.
- Extensive knowledge of agricultural systems such as pedigreed seed system, seed grading and basic agronomic processes.
- Experience working with seed industry partners and representatives.
- Self-starter attitude with the ability to learn and apply new technical skills while on the job.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow specific directives.
- Ability to work under time sensitive deadlines with excellent time-management skills.
