Sarah Foster started 20/20 Seed Labs in 1989 in Nisku, Alberta. She works extensively with government, farmers and industry within agriculture and is one of the most experienced seed analysts in North America, having completed accreditation for the United Kingdom, United States and Canada. She says the time was right to finally build a greenhouse after being in business for over three decades.
“We initially had the thought about building a greenhouse five years ago, and primarily because we were renting space from the University of Alberta and had been since we started. We were just competing for space all the time, and at the same time the opportunities for greenhouse research and greenhouse studies were starting to increase quite a bit,” she says.
The greenhouse allows 20/20 to offer a slate of additional seed testing services and capabilities:
- Herbicide tolerance
- Micronutrients
- Disease testing on mature plants
- Fungicide and inoculant response
- Wild oat resistant testing
- Breeding
- Seed treatments
- Varietal trials
- Seed quality trials
- Rented out greenhouse space
- Product efficacy for disease
